2011 is gone. So long 2011. It was nice knowing you. It was fun while it lasted. Was 2011 a good year for you and your business? Did your marketing strategy succeed? Did your business grow? Or, did it stagnate or even shrink? These are all vital questions to ask at the end of a year. And depending on a variety of factors, the answers will differ. A mid-level marketing manager at a large business may answer those questions very differently than a small business owner. But, regardless of the answers to the questions above, the most vital answer is the answer to this question: what did you learn from your failures and successes in 2011?Very few businesses truly stop to think about what they learned from their actions in the previous year. Here are three very quick steps to truly learn from 2011's success and failures. 1) Write down 2011's failures. Maybe you spent a bunch of money on marketing and never saw any ROI. Perhaps, your employees are unhappy and are either indifferent or quitting. Maybe you mismanaged your finances in some way. Whatever the failures were, write them down.2) Write down 2011's successes. Maybe you went to a new tradeshow that was extremely successful. Perhaps, your business grew because you have the reputation of being a great place to work. Or, perhaps you were able to secure financing or venture capital funding to begin a new project or launch a new product. Whatever the successes were, write them down. 3) Now write down what you've learned from your failures and successes. This is the most important part. If you follow this three step plan, 2012 will be better than 2011.
